IHC connects people, services and communities across Aotearoa to create a more inclusive society where people with intellectual disabilities are valued and supported to live full and satisfying lives.

We have a long history of standing alongside people with intellectual disabilities and their families. Our work combines community connection, frontline support and specialist expertise to deliver positive change across New Zealand.

Behind every service and programme are dedicated teams who bring their skills and passion to ensure everything runs smoothly, from supporting people directly to providing expert advice and essential services across IHC.

Some of our teams

Finance

Our Finance team manages all financial operations for IHC, ensuring our organisation remains strong, sustainable and accountable. This includes budgeting and planning, accounting and reporting, government funding, data analysis and accounts payable. Based in Wellington, the team works closely with services nationwide to make sure resources are used effectively to benefit the people we support.

Information Technology

Our IT team provides the tools, systems and technology that keep our organisation connected. With teams focused on infrastructure and service delivery, they support over a thousand sites and locations across the country. Their work ensures staff and services have secure, reliable systems that enable collaboration and innovation in how we support people.

Administration

Our administration staff provide essential support to both corporate and frontline teams. They are often the first point of contact for our people, families and communities, helping ensure everyone receives the information and assistance they need.

Human Resources

Our HR team supports our people to thrive. From recruitment and development to wellbeing and workforce planning, HR helps ensure staff have the tools, training and environment to deliver the best possible support. While initiatives are coordinated from our National Office in Wellington, HR team members work throughout New Zealand.

Communications

Our Communications team shares the stories, voices and achievements of the IHC community. They manage internal and external communications, public relations, campaigns and digital channels, helping to build understanding and connection between IHC and the communities we serve.

Work for each of these areas is centrally managed out of National Office in Wellington and supported by team members based in other parts of New Zealand.

IHC Programmes

Alongside our funded services, IHC leads a wide range of charitable programmes made possible through the generosity of donors and supporters. These programmes champion inclusion, advocacy and community connection.

Advocacy

Our Advocacy team works to create lasting social change so people with intellectual disabilities are valued, included and have equal opportunities in Aotearoa. We influence laws, policies and systems that affect people’s rights, working alongside individuals with lived experience, their families and whānau, and communities nationwide.

Fundraising

Our Fundraising team leads initiatives such as the Smile Club, Calf and Rural Scheme, and Bequests programme, which provide vital support for non-government funded areas of our work. Every donation helps IHC continue its mission to support people with intellectual disabilities to live full, valued lives in their communities.

Volunteering

Our Volunteering team connects people who want to make a difference with meaningful opportunities to support others. From friendship and skill-based volunteering to online volunteering, these programmes help build relationships and strengthen communities across Aotearoa.

Work across all these areas is coordinated from our National Office in Wellington and supported by team members throughout New Zealand.
